We began Between You & Me in 2021,
from a shared aesthetic, and a gladness in working collaboratively.

Gary is a master craftsman,
developing his skills working with metal for over 40 years, starting with a jewellery apprenticeship at the age of 16.
Anita has a background in animation and puppetry, and has been writing and drawing for decades.

Every day we use serving tools which have worked the same way for millenia.
Tools that are solid in the hand, and perform only one or two functions. It's easy to forget the solace and value of these tools.
And the simple pleasure in using them.

We were drawn to combining these valued solid tools
with the ornament quality of jewellery.
To ‘dress the table’.

We made a few pieces and realised how much more cheerful it was to eat and to serve food with beautiful serving tools,
even if it was just a very plain meal on an ordinary week day night.

Serving up plates of sharing food is a way of eating that suits our society well.
For one thing, its easy and quick- do the shopping, lay the food out as nicely as you can. It can be as cheap or as indulgent as you like.

And the other thing, you don’t have to worry
about people’s multiple food preferences and limitations: Guests can manage their own quantity and content.

And thirdly, sharing platters of food
is communal and modern, and it gets the conversation flowing.

At Between You & Me we are committed to supporting local business and manufacturing.
We are committed to sustainability, both towards the environment and in our own work practice, and believe that quality and sustainability go hand in hand. And alongside that commitment to sustainability we very much believe that serving can and should be, a pleasure.
